Sometimes it feels like summer is just one giant mosquito bite. Here are some tips on how to get rid of mosquitoes and not get bitten as much, so you can enjoy the outdoors more.
If you notice any areas around your home that is collecting water, make sure to eliminate that. Mosquitoes are attracted to more humid areas and will lay eggs in those areas. Make sure to clean water for birdbaths or waterfalls regularly in order to make sure they aren’t laying eggs there.
Pools, waterfalls and ponds are some places where mosquitoes like to hang out. If you have any of these, you could have mosquitoes. If you do, monitoring the area around these bodies of water and eliminating the mosquitoes from that area will help more in the long run.
Mosquito repellent will help eliminate the amount of bites that you get while outside. However, like sunscreen, you must reapply it every few hours to get the maximum effect. Depending on the amount of DEET is in your repellent will be the amount of times you need to reapply. The lesser the amount of DEET, the more you need to apply and vice versa. Do not use DEET stronger than 10 percent on children.
