Do crawling critters fascinate you? What about creatures from jungles, rainforests, and mountains around the world? If so, the Bremerton Bug & Reptile Museum is the place for you. A fascinating place for kids and parents alike to explore creatures and critters in the comfort of their home, not yours!
This museum is self-tour based, meaning you have the freedom to explore and learn at your own pace. Each exhibit is complete with a placard describing the creature and fun facts about it. Exploring the museum provides a great opportunity to cultivate an appreciation and understanding of these incredible creatures, big and small.
The museum has created several scavenger hunts for its visitors to help make the most of your stay. Scavenger hunts can be found on the museum’s website and printed before you arrive. The museum also provides some of their hunts and activities already printed for you. If you are not able to make it in person but still want to learn more about bugs and reptiles, they also provide several at home activities that can be printed.
One of the greatest parts about this museum is that it is free to visit! Whether you plan to take a school group, your family, or a group of friends, the Bug & Reptile Museum will be a great addition to your day. The museum is run solely on donations from its visitors and the community. Donations go directly to support the creatures, the upkeep of the museum, and to providing more opportunities for kids to learn about science. Please consider donating when you make your visit.
Currently, the museum boasts a collection of pythons, boas, and several varieties of lizards and frogs. Some of the longest residents at the museum include a soft-shelled turtle and a blue tongued skink. Make sure to stop by and learn the names of all your soon-to-be reptile friends!
The museum has both a live bug collection and also a collection of preserved bugs on display. Each of the displays is arranged in a way that allows you to get up close and personal with your new bug friends. You can check out the designs on the wings of a monarch butterfly, or take a magnified view of a tarantula’s fangs. Fun facts are spread throughout the museum, including facts about bugs right here in Washington State.
A trip to the museum would not be complete without fun photo memories to capture the day. Throughout the museum grounds, there are fun art pieces and areas that make for memorable photo opportunities. Before completing your trip to Bremerton’s Bug & Reptile Museum, make sure to check out the gift shop. Plenty of STEM related gifts and kits are available for purchase so that you and your family can continue your scientific learning at home.
