Creepy Crawlies of Halloween: A Guide to The Spookiest Pest

Many insects are often associated with Halloween because of their natural eerie appearance and behaviors. The most common pest associated with Halloween is spiders. Spiders look especially spooky because of their large and often furry bodies. While there isn’t a specific backstory as to why spiders are associated with Halloween, there are many factors as to why these pests are so prevalent when it comes to decorating for this popular holiday.

In the United States, Halloween started gaining popularity throughout the country in the 19th century. During this time, people began to decorate their homes with items such as skeletons, witches, black cats, and spiders. As the Halloween tradition continued to grow and the theme became commercialized, spiders became one of the most iconic symbols.

Spiders are known to thrive in places where there are other bugs they can feast on. Spiders also like to remain hidden and out of sight. Because of these common behaviors, spiders can often be found in homes and buildings that have been abandoned and may even be old. This characteristic fits perfectly well with the supernatural and spooky theme that Halloween brings. Places such as haunted houses and old graveyards would be common hiding places for spiders as these areas are not usually busy with people.

There are deeply rooted folklore and superstitions when it comes to these creepy crawling bugs. One of these common folklore has to do with the webbing of spiders. Spiders in stories are often seen as weavers of fate. It is said that if a spider appears and creates a web, it may be weaving your fate or destiny. Spider webbing can add to a mystical and mysterious feeling when it comes to Halloween. Folklore has also believed that spider webbing can be magical after it rains. When the sun reflects the leftover dew on the web, it can appear as magical and mystical.

One of the most common reasons why spiders are associated with this holiday is due to arachnophobia. Many people have a fear of spiders, making them a popular choice for creating a sense of unease, even though spiders are crucial bugs when it comes to natural pest control management.

While you may want to celebrate Halloween with fake spider decorations, you probably do not want to celebrate with real ones. Because of the sugary treats that are associated with Halloween, pests can often be attracted to homes with candy that has been left out. Many pests have an incredible sense of smell and can pick up on sugary treats nearby. Make sure your candy or any other Halloween treats are properly sealed throughout the day and overnight to prevent bugs from finding it. When other pests are attracted to your home, it attracts spiders. It is important to take the precautionary steps of keeping other bugs out of your house so that it prohibits spiders from following.

While there may not be a specific backstory as to why spiders are such a quintessential factor with Halloween, their mysterious and often creepy qualities have made them a perfect fit for the spooky season. By keeping your Halloween treats properly sealed, you can prevent real spiders from joining in on your Halloween decorations.
