When looking for things to do in Tacoma, the Tacoma Art Museum is a great way to spend time. The Art Museum does a phenomenal job hosting events that are open to the public.
The Art Museum will offer Free Neighborhood Nights every Thursday from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. These dates and items are subject to change based on the library’s needs. Please always check the Tacoma Art Museums Event Calendar before going! Free Neighborhood Nights allow the Tacoma Art Museum to connect with the community and build programs.
The Museum also offers Yoga, typically on Sundays from 10:15 am-11:15 am. This class is inspired by the art around the Museum and allows students to feel connected, rested, and restored. After each class, students are encouraged to stick around and enjoy a complimentary juice at the TAM Cafe. When attending these yoga classes, don’t forget to bring your own yoga mat and towels. You can prepay before entering the museum by visiting their website!
The Tacoma Art Museum is closed every Monday and Tuesday. Their operating hours are Wednesday-Sunday from 10 am-5 pm with the exception of Free Neighborhood Nights every Thursday from 5 pm-8 pm. The cost of admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, and $10 for children. Membership prices are also available for the museum.
While you are at the Tacoma Art Museum, don’t miss the Studio section of the building. In the Studio, all guests are invited to connect, explore, create, and read together. There are books set aside for guests to enjoy and materials placed on each table throughout the room for guests to create their own art if they’d like.
A great offering that the Museum provides for children is the Sketch Club. The Sketch Club is for students in grades two through five. Students will begin new projects each week in this open-studio art-making space. This is a great opportunity for children to connect with themselves and others and find their inner voice as they express themselves through their artwork.
Throughout the year, the Tacoma Art Museum looks for volunteers to help with events and other things throughout the building. Volunteers who are interested can check their website or call the museum to ask for opportunities. The Museum works hard to connect with the communities around them and is always grateful for their volunteers!
You will enjoy your time spent here and will notice that the exhibits get shifted around regularly. The Museum changes the exhibits based on the time of year and provides insights into each art piece. The Tacoma Art Museum is a great place to come and learn about artists and the meaning behind their work.
