5 Tips on How to Treat a Wasp Sting

Summer time is great and all, but when the wasps start coming out, it isn’t as fun anymore. Here are 5 tips and tricks on how to treat a wasp sting in the comfort of your own home.

1. Vinegar

Why it helps: Wasp stings are less acidic as bee stings and have more of an alkalinity. Therefore, the acidity of the vinegar helps neutralize the alkalinity of the sting.

How to apply it: To use this method effectively, take a cotton ball and soak it in either apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and place it on the affected area. Apply pressure to the sting. You should feel a difference in pain and swelling within minutes.

2. Honey

Why it helps: Bees love honey, and it turns out it actually helps wasp stings. Ironic, right?

How to apply it: To use correctly, take a small amount of honey and apply it to the affected area. Next, take a bandage and leave it on the area for up to an hour. Honey helps with wound healing, itching and overall pain.

3. Garlic

Why it helps: This simple home remedy will help relieve pain of the sting, but can leave a strong odor. However, it’s worth it.

How to apply it: Crush one clove of garlic, and lather the juices of the garlic on the sting. Afterwards, take a bandage and place it on the affected area for a while in order for the juices to sink in.

4. Cucumber

Why it helps: Something I didn’t know is that cucumbers are actually a natural astringent which means they tend to shrink or constrict body tissue. This helps with the pain that the wasp sting produces.

How to apply it: You simply take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the wasp sting until the pain subsides.

5. Baking Soda and Water

Why it helps: This remedy can help reduce pain, itching and swelling that comes from a wasp sting.

How to apply it: First, you create a paste using baking soda and water. Next, apply a thick layer of that paste to the affected area. Take a bandage and cover the paste with it. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes. The paste can be re-applied as needed.
